Cookie Policy
The cookies and browser storage Buildfolk uses, and how to control them.

1. What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. "Essential" cookies are needed for the site to work and to keep your account safe, so they cannot be switched off. Other cookies are used only if you agree.
2. Cookies we use
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
nexus_session | Keeps you signed in. Page scripts cannot read it. | 12 hours |
nexus_device | A random code that lets us recognise browsers you have used before. We use it for new-device sign-in alerts and optional sign-in codes. We store only a scrambled copy. | About 13 months |
nexus_consent | Remembers your choice about analytics cookies. | 6 months |
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_<ID> | Google Analytics. Counts visits and shows us which pages are used, so we can improve the site. Google Signals and ad personalisation are switched off. | Up to 2 years |
Analytics is only offered when the site owner has switched it on. It is never used for teen accounts, and it is switched off automatically when your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies of any other kind.
3. Browser storage
Some features save data in your browser's local storage instead of on our server:
- AI chat history, notes, saved projects and image cards;
- Arcade high scores and productivity tools;
- your own OpenRouter API key, if you add one;
- your theme, layout and similar display choices.
This storage is cleared when you sign out, or when a different account signs in on that browser.
4. Other services your browser contacts
These services do not set cookies through Buildfolk, but your browser connects to them, so they can see your IP address:
- Google Fonts, for the site's fonts.
- Google STUN servers, to connect calls.
- OpenRouter, when you chat using your own API key.
- Cloudflare (R2), which stores the photos and videos members upload. Your browser loads them from Cloudflare through short-lived links.
See the Privacy Policy for details.
5. Changing your choice
Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page to change your analytics choice at any time. If you withdraw consent, we delete the Google Analytics cookies from your browser. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block essential cookies, you will not be able to sign in.
